Teresa A. Petch

Teresa A. Petch, 95, of Canton, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Bethany Nursing Home. She was born in Canton on April 11, 1929, to parents William and Florence Petch. They preceded Teresa in death as did her sister, Rita Stitt; brother, William Petch; and grandnephew, John (Jack) Finnegan.

A graduate of Louisville High School, Teresa went on to attend Otterbein University and Kent State University earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in vocal and instrumental music. She shared her love of music while teaching at Canton South schools, retiring in the 1980s. During her time at Canton South, she was awarded the Martha Holden Jennings Award for her excellence in teaching.

Very gifted in voice, Miss Petch performed with the Canton Youth Symphony, the Akron and Canton Symphony Choruses, Blossom Festival Chorus and Canton Civic Opera, as well as the Canton Players Guild, Canal Fulton Summer Theater, Cleveland Symphony Chorus and the Cincinnati Opera. She was a member of the College Club of Canton and the MacDowell Music Club.

Teresa is survived by nieces, Deidre (Dr. John) Finnegan and Mary Anne (Roger) Coen; nephews, Bill (Sheri) Stitt, Pat (Darla) Stitt, and Joe (Tina) Stitt; as well as several cousins. (Special acknowledgement to cousin, Gene Sisterhen).
