V. Joseph "Joe" Galizio, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Friday after a short illness. Born in Akron, he had lived in the Hartville/North Canton area since 1976. He was a 1954 graduate of Akron North High School and earned bachelor degrees at the University of Akron and Walsh University. Joe retired from Ohio Edison after 39 years of service. He began his career as a meter reader and, through hard work, determination and his seemingly endless thirst for knowledge, was promoted several times ultimately retiring as a Customer Service Training Instructor. Shortly after retirement, Joe started his own customer service consulting business teaching at a local community college, as well as, several local business. He also received his CDL and drove buses for a short time, eventually working for a local entrepreneur until his untimely death. He was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church where he served as a lay minister and a lector. He was very instrumental in the building of the Grotto of the Resurrection. Joe, along with his wife, also served as Marriage Sponsors at the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the United States Army. Joe loved people and people loved him. He made some kind of impact on all who met him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret L. (Donatell) Galizio, daughters, Teresa Galizio of North Canton and Marianne Anderson of Hartville, son, John (Tracy) Galizio of Cuyahoga Falls, grandchildren, Regina and Vito Galizio and Desirae and Emily Anderson, great-granddaughter, Guiliana Galizio, sisters, Helen Caliri of Cuyahoga Falls and Judy (Helmut) Klemm of Diamond, Ohio and brother, Leonard (Diane) Galizio of Akron, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Galizio. Family and friends will meet on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Leo Wehrlin as celebrant. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
