Her greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, each carrying forward her love and legacy.
Velma Jean Kuntz McDonald, 98, passed at her home peacefully the morning of August 15, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 17, 1928, in North Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mildred (Stephan) Kuntz. Velma lived most of her life in Canton, where she built a life devoted to her faith and family,.
A proud 1946 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. She worked for GE Capital for 15 years, before retiring in 1988 and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where her faith was nourished throughout her life.
Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” McDonald; sisters, Peg Kessler, Betty Burse, Miriam Eckenweiler, and Arlene Kessler; and brothers, Elmer Kuntz and Randy Kuntz.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Roger) Ketcham; Sandy (Kevin) Grady, Christy (Carl) Robinson, and Mary (Jeff) Loomis; and sons: Gary (Karen) McDonald, Paul McDonald, Robert (Karen) McDonald, Larry (Teresa) McDonald, and Rick (Lisa) McDonald. Velma’s greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 44 great‑grandchildren, each carrying forward her love and legacy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Guardian Angel Parish, Canton. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.
