VICTORIA JEAN QUINLAN (DERDA)

her loving children. Affectionally known as Vickie, she was born on January 26, 1948, in South
Bend, Indiana. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School (1966) and Saint Mary's College
(1970). Vickie was dedicated to Corpus Christi Church, Saint Mary's College, and the University
of Notre Dame. She worked at all three institutions over the years in various positions, including
the SMC Registrar, the ND Dining hall, and both bookstores.

Vickie enjoyed summers, holidays, and eventual full-time retirement at Birch Lake in Vandalia,
MI. She loved her crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She could often be found in the kitchen,
testing a recipe, or taking a break to play with her grandchildren. She never said no to a tailgate
party and without fail, win or lose, she cheered on her Fighting Irish at Notre Dame football
games.

She shared 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Stephen J. Quinlan, who preceded
her in death in 2022. Vickie was also preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Jane
(Kujawa) Derda of South Bend, IN. She is survived by her siblings: Marcia Whittleton of
Mishawaka, IN; Marianne (m. Jim) Springer of Valrico, FL; Janice (George-deceased) Harpole of
Niles, MI; and Tony Derda (Jr.) of Mansfield, TX. Remembered as a faithful wife, a caring mother,
a loving grandmother, and a friendly neighbor, Vickie's absence will be deeply felt by all who
were fortunate enough to know her.

Vickie leaves behind an enduring legacy through her three children and seven grandchildren:
Jennifer (m. Shane) Applegate, Jack and Zeb of Arden, NC; Caroline (m. Hank) Kappel, Suzie and
Liam of Canton, OH; and Christopher (m. Sarah) Quinlan, Ryan, Ella and Kate of Northbrook, IL.

To honor and celebrate her life, a funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in
South Bend, Indiana, on Friday, January 5th. There will be a one-hour visitation time at 10:00
am, followed by liturgy at 11:00 am. Friends and family are welcome to gather, remember, and
pay their respects to this remarkable woman, who enriched the lives of many. In lieu of flowers,
the family kindly requests donations to Corpus Christi School or Church in her memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton, Ohio, where prayers, fond memories, and condolences may be shared at: lamiellfuneralhome.com.
