Virginia (Ginny) Theresa Thomas
April 1, 1929 - August 5, 2021
Virginia (Ginny) Theresa Thomas, age 92, was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Ginny was surrounded by her extensive and loving family, who are comforted that her recent pain and suffering have ended. A life-long resident of Canton, Ginny attended St. Paul grade school, and was a 1947 graduate of Mount Marie Academy (Central Catholic).
She worked and operated Thomas Grocery in Canton, where customers were treated as family and everyone was welcomed with a big smile and a helping hand. Her cherished relationship with the multicultural community was memorialized by several of Charita Goshay's wonderful pieces in The Repository. Ginny also worked at The Hall of Fame Fitness Center until her retirement, when she was able to spend more time with family and graciously care for her great-nephews.
Ginny was a keen gardener with an ability to nurture plants into a thriving, bountiful garden. Her plentiful grapevine and other produce were used to cook Lebanese dishes with her sisters, which fed the whole family. She was also a fabulous baker, with signature desserts enjoyed at our gatherings large and small.
She was lucky to travel to many interesting locations with her family and friends, including such far off destinations as Cuba and Hawaii. Though she had no children of her own, she enjoyed sharing tales of her travels with her family and caregivers. When they would come to visit, she made sure no one left empty-handed – be it a special toy or their favorite dessert.
Ginny touched the lives of her family and friends who will remember her quick wit and genuine laughter. She will be greatly missed.
Watch over us, Ginny, and keep us safe.
