William F. Witmer

June 22, 1937 — July 14, 2021

William F. Witmer, age 84, died Wednesday. He was a life resident of the Canton, 1955 graduate of Lehman High School, was a retired Canton Police Patrolman and the former co-owner of Bill and Mary's Tavern. Bill was a member of Christ the Servant Parish, McKinley Lodge #2 F.O.P. and was inducted to the Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for Billiards. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Witmer, sister, Elizabeth Springhetti and a brother, Norman Witmer. Survived by his children, Michael (Karen) Witmer, Ann (Bob) Mohler, Patti (Francis) Nauer and Colleen (Peter) O'Connor, grandchildren, Bryan (Katie) and Shawn Nauer and Michael and Megan Witmer and sisters, Mary Ann Jackson and Margaret Dvorsack. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Christ the Servant Parish for a Mass of Christian Burial with Monsignor Lewis Gaetano as celebrant. Private burial will be in Saint John Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stark County Hunger Task Force or the Stark County Humane Society.
